May the water flow again

honouring all those who came before us and

living the way of nature in Algarve, Portugal

We have been living on this land we called home for more than a decade.

This part of Portugal is very dry and prone to forest fires. But water bodies do exist from an earlier time and we have been working to hydrate the natural environment so that the ecosystem may flourish again.

The South Slope water and access network is our main priority because it currently constitutes the main node of activity, where patches of agroforestry have been implemented as well as first actions of forest management.

The West Valley is the adjacent valley, currently wild and untouched, however at risk due to increasing drought conditions. Our intention is to support the ecosystem to thrive, by harvesting and storing water in the landscape.

Ridges constitute the upper part of the watershed. They are a sensitive part of it, prone to erosion and quick loss of soil and tree coverage. Increasing water infiltration in the hilltops allows reforestation and soil conservation in these dry areas.
